Topic: “Youth for Social Entrepreneurship”
Employment crisis is getting immense with changing world-scenario. Qualified youth struggle for worthwhile avenues and land to compromises due to less oppurtunities. Lakhs of youth still don’t even get that minimum opportunity to earn their livelihood. Self-enterprise has been a venture only for handful young strugglers. The scenario is changing. Hundreds of students with MBA degrees from apex institutes are opting for social entrepreneurship where they are not only earning their livelihood but doing great help to the society simultaneously. It has also become a grand means to earn the satisfaction by experimenting your vision, planning and creative ability in favour of societal welfare.
In an attempt to promote the entrepreneurial skills of the youth for the cause of social welfare, we organized Manthan, the National Youth Symposium. The symposium saw a great response with novel ideas on social entrepreneurship pouring in from universities all over the country.
On the initial day, Mr. Sudhir Chaddha graced the occasion as Chief guest. He is an engineer who took the unconventional path of farming of fruits and flowers and through the use of latest technology from abroad and his own innovative techniques, created a global market for his farm products. Vice Chancellor, Dr. B.S. Bisht, DSW sir, Dean Veterinary Sciences and Er. Avinashi, an MBA from Imperial college London and an alumni of Pantnagar University were the other guests who guided the event.
Mr. Kaushalendra, an IIM-A pass out who popularized social entrepreneurship through his exemplary initiative of creating a framework for selling vegetables for the profit of farmers in Bihar, was an outstanding personality whose presence made the event quite unforgettable.Students talked to him for hours and felt really instigated. He was a humble personality who gave witty and simple answers and ultimately, the entire hall , inspired by his personality, stood to give him standing ovation.
The evening of the first day in the two day long symposium was set on fire by the unparalleled performance of the famous Baba Satyanarayan Maurya as part of cultural night. Through his spontaneous sketches and songs refering to the glory of Indian motherland, he ignited a spark inside all as the entire hall stood dancing in patriotic fervour.
The next day, teams of students presented papers on some very touching ideas of Social Entrepreneurship in contest. The final session was with Dr.M.P.Singh, Executive Chairman, Sulabh International, the world famous NGO working for improving health and sanitation. His explanation and efforts of Sulabh were sensitizing. VC Uttarakhand Open University, Sri Vinay Pathak was Chief Guest of closure. VC Dr.Bisht remarked that being a part of VSM is a special bliss for all of you and it is a boon for you that none can get elsewhere. The two great days yielded big learnings. Dr. B.Kumar sir, Director communication, Pantnagar University, expressed his great happiness and declared the symposium a grand success. He said that it is unthinkable for other Universities to hold such student activities par excellence.
