Yet another one minute dare contest where students came to shred off their stage fear. This month, one minute speech contest was organised on 9th February and the topic was "Is the language of medium of instruction, a hindrance in the growth of the country?" The judges for the day were Dr. Shailesh Tripathi, Associate Professor, Horticulture and Dr. Subhash Chandra, Associate Professor, Agronomy.
Those in support of the issue raised a question on the political authorities who claim to develop the educational infrastructure but still majority of the Indian youth lack the basic knowledge of English, which is one reason for increasing unemployment. While those against the subject matter said that is the skill set, capability and potential of an individual which determines the growth rather than the medium of instruction. There were around 40 students who turned up to face the podium. Before the results were declared the judges gave in their views summing up both the merits as well as the demerits of the topic.
